MEMBER SPOTLIGHT A State Champion, On the Course and Off Noah Francis · VGA MI State Champion Noah's been a Gregor member for about ten months, and in that time he's dropped his handicap by over 14 shots, won the club's winter league, and, this summer, took first place at the Veteran Golfers Association Michigan State Championship at Harbor Shores, finishing at -6, one shot clear of the field. -6 Final Score 10 Mo. Member -14 HCP Shots Noah served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman before a training injury led to a medical retirement, three ruptured discs in his back, six months bedridden, and doctors telling him he'd never play golf again. He proved them wrong, picking the game back up at 25 and never looking back. The VGA gave him something he'd been missing since leaving the service: camaraderie, and a real competitive outlet. "Being able to step up to the biggest day of the year for that organization and play the best golf I've played all year, I think it was a cool representation of how sweet the Gregor is." Noah's already qualified for Regionals in Northwest Illinois (August 22–23), with the top 2 finishers advancing to Nationals. We'll be cheering him on. Paradise Sports Psychology Co-Founder · Paradise Sports Psychology What a lot of members might not know: Noah is also a sports psychologist, and for the past several months he's had an office right here at Gregor Clawson (next to Bay 3). He co-founded Paradise Sports Psychology, which blends mental performance work with physical training, helping everyone from junior athletes to Olympic competitors perform at their best. He's the former Director of Sports Psychology at Oakland University, where the golf program won two championships during his two years there. At Gregor, he's developed the Golf Mental Index, a way to track your "mental handicap" alongside your actual one. "Be real. Be mad when you're supposed to be mad, be excited when you're supposed to be excited. That's what lets you move on from a double bogey and be present for the next shot." Want to talk to Noah? Grab his card at the front desk, knock on his office door next to Bay 3, or find him at paradisebarbell.com.
