MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Sean Gouda: Energy Leader, Family Man, Work in Progress on the GreensAsk Sean Gouda to introduce himself and he'll tell you he's a husband, a dad of two, and someone who's happiest when he's building something, a customer relationship specialist, a team culture champion, and a deal nobody else saw coming. He uses golf to explain it best: he wants a complete game, tee to green to cup. Getting there off the tee and onto the green? No problem. The putter is, in his words, his kryptonite, always looking for ways to achieve. From a Family Driving Range to the Energy IndustrySean's golf story starts at eight years old, when his father, an entrepreneur who immigrated from Egypt, bought a driving range in Caro, Michigan on what was basically a whim. The whole family ran it every summer: Sean learned to grip a club, work a cash register, and build club sets, soaking up pointers whenever the range pro had a free minute between lessons. That same drive carried into his career. Sean spent 14 years at DTE Energy, first in account management, touring factories and plants across Michigan to understand how businesses used energy, then moving into street lighting, where he helped install the first LED streetlights in Warren, Michigan. Today he's a recognized voice in the energy industry, and later this month he'll be a keynote speaker at the Right of Way Conference on Mackinac Island, leading a 90-minute interactive session for around 150 attendees on the misinformation surrounding renewable energy infrastructure. In October, he's on a panel discussing AI in the energy world in Georgia. Finding The GregorSean found his way to The Gregor through a mutual friend, and the first walk into Lake Orion sold him instantly, the curved screens, the lounge, the whole feel of the place. He became an early member, at first using it for client meetings and business development. Then the golf took over. For months, Sean showed up at 4:30 in the morning to put in work before his day started. It paid off: his handicap dropped from a 12 to a 6, and he credits The Gregor entirely for the tee-to-green consistency that got him there, 16 of 18 fairways, 14 of 18 greens in regulation on his best days. He even shot a 74 to win a tournament at Bloomfield Hills Country Club. The putter, true to form, is still the project.
The Mac InvitationalEvery year, a group of about 28 guys, some flying in from as far as Arizona and California, gather for the Mac Invitational. Two years ago, Sean played in it for the first time while his father was going through a cancer diagnosis, and on the 16th hole at The Gailes course at Lakewood Shores in Oscoda, Michigan, he hit a 9-iron that bounced, rolled, and stopped right against the pin, not quite in the hole, until a gust of wind knocked the flag and dropped the ball in for his first career hole-in-one. His whole group lost it. This year, Sean trained seriously to compete for the tournament's "Man of Valor" title, and won it. Coming up: he's defending his title at the Ward Cup, a 27-hole club championship at Orchard Lake he's won once and taken second in since, and he's playing in a member-guest tournament at Pine Lake in late September. To Close Out a Great Interview | Gregor's Signature QuestionEvery member spotlight closes with the same question: something completely unimportant you have a ridiculously strong opinion about. Sean's answer: he refuses to buy anything new. Electronics, gear, high-end apparel, if it exists on Facebook Marketplace, he's patient enough to wait for the right deal. He's currently hunting a rangefinder with a $100 budget on something that retailed at $650, and he's been watching (not buying, yet) a fully loaded C8 Corvette that's dropped $20,000 in asking price over the last month and a half. |

The Gregor brought a putting competition to the table (literally), and everyone who signed up on the sheet or dropped a card was entered to win a prize pack. And That Wasn't All | A Busy Few Weeks Out in the CommunityClawson Chamber Golf Outing The Gregor was proud to sponsor this year's Clawson Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing as the Closest to the Pin sponsor, great seeing so many familiar faces out on the course. Lake Orion Chamber Golf Outing The Gregor also sponsored the Lake Orion Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing, always a great way to support the community that's been so good to us since day one. Woodward Dream Cruise The Gregor set up a booth along Woodward for the Dream Cruise, bringing the putting mat and prize wheel out to meet even more of the neighborhood. The Shed 2, Supporting Folds of Honor The Gregor was honored to sponsor The Shed 2 golf event, benefiting Folds of Honor and the families of America's fallen and disabled service members and first responders. Know of a good event for us? Setting up a table or canopy and doing giveaways is always a good time, if you're connected to a chamber event, expo, or community gathering where The Gregor could be a good fit, let us know. Always on the lookout for the next one. |

DRAFT SEASON
Host Yours at The GregorIt's that time of year again. This past Sunday evening, a group took over the Clawson lounge for their fantasy football draft, laptops open, custom league shirts on, simulator bays glowing in the background. Good energy, good snacks, and a much better setup than someone's kitchen table. If your league is still looking for a spot to draft, The Gregor's got the space for it: comfortable seating, screens, and room to spread out, at all three locations. Bring your laptops, bring your trash talk, and the rest is taken care of. Interested in booking your draft night? Reach out to get set up. |
